Fuel filter torque setting??

Just done an early 100k service. Oil, pollen, air and fuel filter - question with the fuel filter. (It's the type with the 13mm allen bolt through the middle) On refitting the top the Haynes manual advised a torque of 8Nm which I set and competed, on removing the Newtonmeter I noticed on the top of the fuel ring stamped into the metal 14Nm around the bolt hole indicating clockwise. Which setting should I be using, I don't want it too loose and fuel coming between the seal, on the other hand it's a SS bolt going into alloy and I don't want to strip the thread. Should I just go for somewhere in the middle :lol:

Any advise appreciated.

Sorry forgot to say - Passat Estate 1.9TDI 130bhp '51reg, I think the engine code is AWX off the top of my head.

I would go with the torque setting listed on the filter. It obviously is made to handle it.

No 1.9 TDI B5 Passats were sold in the US, so the knowledge is lacking here.

actually, there are quite a few roaming about plano, and not to mention boardwalk vw has an inventory of late year b5.5 tdi's.

I would say as tight as my hand can get it, but then again, I've busted off lug nuts...

Now tightened properly, tried 14Nm and didn't strip the thread, cheers guys

Over here the b5.5 were various iterations of 1.9TDi, 100 and 130BHP and maybe a 110 too. The B6 had the 2.0TDi. Some of those old TDi's are very economical, some lads have claimed up 70 mpg.

OP, how's your timing belt history?

I generally average around 52mpg (currently 54mpg since filter changes).

Timing belt was changed at ~55k miles, will probably change again at the next 10k service, it's at 95k so around 105ish.
